Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate residents were woken up by a distress call on Sunday night after a young girl screamed for help prompting the neighbors to respond only to find the young girl on the floor in pain.
Her step-mother who she lives with had burnt her private parts with hot oil and also disfigured her face in the process.
The angry residents wanted to lynch the woman but the police in the area intervened and whisked the woman to the Biafra Police station pending investigations into the matter.
The woman in question was later released on a Maslah agreement even as social media users cried for her re-arrest after photos of the girl started making rounds on social networks.
Neighbors told the police that it had become a habit as she had been mercilessly beaten before in separate incidents.
Her father who was working in the war-torn South Sudan capital is said to be unaware of the happenings at home since he rarely cames home. The incident is said to have come from the fact that the woman has been unable to conceive with her husband and was jealous of the daughter.
