A man allegedly slashed his wife with a panga last night after she denied him sex at their Gotkweru home in Suna East, Migori county. Mageyi Ouru is said to have cut his wife Dorothy Atieno several times before escaping.
Suna West deputy county commissioner Yusuf Huka said the woman died from her injuries upon arrival at Migori Level 4 Hospital.
Cases of gender-based violence have been reported around the country, and concerns have been raised by rights groups, members of the public and leaders.
Yesterday in Kisumu, a 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly breaking his wife’s hands and legs when she denied him sex. The man is said to have visited from Nairobi where he lives, before he reportedly attacked the woman, identified as Margaret Odhiambo, 49, using a metallic object.
The man was arrested and taken to Nyando police station. Police in Kisumu and other parts of the country have been accused of handling cases of GBV poorly.
